BALLAKERMEEN HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

September 2001

Welcome to the new school year and a particular welcome to "New Parents" mainly of Year 7 children. I hope you have had a good summer and are now full of energy and ideas to support the Association during the forthcoming year.

Briefly, for the benefit of those who haven't heard of us before, the Association is a relatively informal group of parents and friends who arrange various social, informative and/or entertaining events for the purpose of raising funds, or the passing on of information, that we hope will improve the environment in which our children are taught.

A year or two ago our Newsletter opened with something like "Support us or we fold". I am pleased to say that extra people have come forward during the year, but of course, we have lost Committee Members recently when their children have left school. We need support, all types of support from ideas people to people who can turn ideas into workable events and, not least, the people who turn up and do. This last year a lot of the work has devolved onto a few people so please think about coming to some of our meetings or volunteering your services.

Our A.G.M. is on Tuesday 2nd October at 6.30 pm in the Learning Resource Centre at the School. Please come along and find out about the Association, what we do, why we do it and the fun we can have doing it. If you cannot come to that meeting we usually meet each month on the first Tuesday during School Term. Although there is "work" to be done at these meetings we try and keep them reasonably light hearted and brief. Meetings rarely last longer than an hour.

I believe that most of the key officers posts have people willing to do the job for the coming year if the meeting wishes, so please do not feel that you are likely to get roped into something you don't want to do. We have in recent times let ourselves down a bit in the area of event publicity. If anyone feels they might be able to help or advise us with this area they will be more than welcome.

Fashion Show

This term we have only one event but it is a major event. You may have heard something about it from your child.

The Fashion Show will be on for the two evenings of Thursday 15 h and Friday 16th November. In due course there will be tickets available, but please make a note of the dates now. Helpers both before and during the event will be wanted not only directly with the show but also in the background. More details again at the AGM.

300 Club

Attached you will find details of our 300 Club for which 1 believe we have a few vacancies. If you would like to join 1 am sure our Hon. Treasurer Debbie Schuster would like to hear from you. This is a relatively easy way to contribute to the school if you are short of time. Since our last letter the 300 Club winners have been:
